How LocalGPs works: sources and methods
LocalGPs brings together 10 published NHS, CQC and ONS datasets about England's GP practices. Every figure on the site is taken from these sources or worked out from them as described below, and pages are rebuilt when a source publishes a new release.

Patients per GP: registered patients divided by the full-time-equivalent number of qualified GPs (all GPs less GPs in training). For an area it is the patients at its practices divided by their qualified GPs, over practices reporting both.
Appointments: the latest three months of NHS England's practice-level appointment counts. Shares are of appointments with a known mode, timing or status. "Same day" means the appointment took place on the day it was booked, and "more than 28 days" measures the time between booking and appointment, not how long a patient waited to get through.
GP Patient Survey: a result is described as above or below England only when a 95% interval around it, worked out from the number of patients who answered that question (a Wilson interval), excludes the England figure. Results for primary care networks, ICBs and England are Ipsos's own published figures. Towns and council areas have no published figure, so their pages compare the practices' own results.
Condition registers: the share of a practice's registered patients (in the register's age group) on its register for each condition. For an area it is the practices' register counts added up and divided by their list sizes added up.
Catchments: the practices that residents of each postcode district are registered with, from NHS England's count of registered patients by neighbourhood (LSOA). Each neighbourhood is placed in the postcode district holding most of its live postcodes.
Practices appear once they have a published patient survey result or a CQC rating; a practice with neither (for example a special allocation scheme) has no page.
